Dean Baldwin Painting is very proud to break ground on the construction/remodel of Hangar 200 at Grissom Aeroplex for their new, state-of-the-art facility!  This is going to put Grissom on the commercial aviation map.  Dean Baldwin Painting services big commercial companies such as American Airlines, US Airways and United.  They also paint Military, Cargo, and Corporation jets and airplanes.  This venture will grant Indiana huge exposure to these large corporations and it will also bring jobs to 200+ individuals in the Miami County region.  Dean Baldwin Painting will not only be hiring 200+ individuals but they will be teaching them a trade/skill that they can use for the rest of their careers.  Dean Baldwin Painting expects around 225+ aircraft a year to use their services.  This will not only bring jobs to the area but also boost GUS general aviation traffic and increase fuel sales at our own Montgomery Aviation at GUS!  Here are some photos from the lovely ground breaking ceremony for Hangar 200 construction and remodel.  Welcome to GUS and Indiana Dean Baldwin Painting!!

Everyone from Eagle Flyers, Montgomery Aviation and Indianapolis Executive Airport congratulate Pete Alexander on completing his Sport Pilot License.  He has been training with Eagle Flyers and flying with Certified Master Flight Instructor Jack Vandeventer.  His first solo flight occurred at Indianapolis Executive Airport in the Cessna 162 Skycatcher and ended with his sport pilot license.  JC Buehler (FAA DPE) was Pete's flight examiner and Pete said he, "learned a lot during his check-ride."  Another great day in general aviation!

Eagle Flyers has been Indianapolis Flight Training since 2000 as a Cessna Pilot Center and a Cirrus Pilot Training Center.

Why a Commercial Rating Makes Sense

Written by
A great perspective on why a commercial rating makes sense and recurrent training is so valuable - by Tom Nasser who keeps his Cirrus SR22 at Indianapolis Executive Airport:

"I’ve been flying since 1978 and got my instrument rating in 1979.  I bought my Cirrus SR22 in 2005 and fly mostly for pleasure.  I made the decision to get my commercial rating not because I want to fly for compensation or hire but only because I want to become the best and safest pilot I can be.  I just passed the commercial check ride Friday with flying colors.  Although I’m self motivated and studied my ass off I also want to thank my instructor, Cliff Izer.  He’s very professional and teaches safety and precision to the extreme.  I can honestly say I’m now the safest and best pilot I’ve ever been.  This rating really takes your flying skills to a much higher level.  I know COPA is all about safety so I encourage everyone to take the next step and get this rating.  The maneuvers are very rewarding after you practice them and understand the smoothness and coordination of how to perform them with precision.  You really do become the ultimate master of the aircraft.  I also agree with the recent article in COPA magazine by Matt McDaniel about instrument currency and how important it is to maintain your currency.  I want to continue getting recurrent training every 6 months not only for myself but for all my passengers that fly with me.  I’ve been to 3 or 4 CPPP meetings and a few CDM seminars just for the review.  Never stop learning.  If anybody wants to contact me via phone or email I’m happy to give suggestions on how to get this done and give more details on how the check ride goes.  It’s worth the time, effort, and money.  You’re life may depend on what you learn from this and it is FUN!!!  Hope to see most of you in Duluth at M10!!!  Fly safe...Tom

Montgomery Aviation was proud to host the Boone County Sheriff's 'Rule the Road' teen driving event earlier last month.  It was a great success with nearly 50 teens participating.  Below you can read the article from the Indiana Criminal Justice Unit's "Traffic Safety" Newsletter. Big thanks to Boone County Sheriffs Department!

BOONE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HELP TEENS RULE THE ROAD

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office hosted a Rule the Road Teen

Driving Event. Nearly 50 Boone County teens participated in this event. Rule the Road provides

participants an opportunity to learn lifesaving skills behind the wheel. The teens learn from and

practice under the direction of Emergency Vehicle Operator Instructors. The events reinforce the

importance of using a seatbelt, not driving impaired or distracted and focusing on driving

skills including vehicle handling, and speed and space management.  Congratulations to the Boone

County Sheriff’s Office an amazing event! Special thank you to event sponsors Montgomery

Aviation, Lamar & Lamar Insurance, American Legion Riders, A Plus Driving Academy and the Lebanon

Wal-mart for their contributions to Rule the Road Boone County.

Next up, Rule the Road will be in Evansville on June

6th.  If you would like more information about bringing Rule the Road to your community, contact
